Léon Spek (1980, Roosendaal, The Netherlands) is a sound artist in the broadest sense. He composes and performs electronic music, designs electric sounds, builds custom designed electronic instruments, and creates sound sculptures.

He graduated from the
Institute of Sonology (The Hague, The Netherlands) in 2003. He specialized in improvised electronic music using his own custom analog instruments (modified radios) and DSP (SuperCollider). Next to his dedication to live performance he also co-designed sounds for theatre production and collaborated on a twelve speaker sound installation.

Around this time the musical collaboration with Ernst van der Loo finally matured and grew into UNGRUND.

In 2005 he earned his diploma in fine arts from the Image & Sound interfaculty of the Royal Academy of Art (The Hague, The Netherlands).
During this period at the interfaculty he started his first experiments with sound sculptures.
Continuing his studies in the second phase program of interfaculty, he reasearched the possibilities of embedded micro-controllers and sonic art.
He graduated succesfully in june 2007.

He started the net-label Processed Recordings in 2007 together with Ernst van der Loo.

In 2007 he started working together with Nanda Milbreta as the sound artist duo Neon & Landa. The duo explores sound art through experimental use of materials and technology, resulting in sound installations, sound sculptures and unconventional music.

Besides all the above, he is using his skills helping other artists as a technical advisor for sound in the Rijksakademie in Amsterdam, Holland.
